QUETTA/NOUSHKI/PANJGUR/Gwadar – Unexplained closures and heavy security sweeps gripped multiple towns in Balochistan today, as authorities imposed lockdown-like measures in Noshki, Panjgur, Nasirabad, and Beseema, citing security contingencies.
In Noshki, all entry and exit points to the main market were sealed, with armed security forces deployed in strength. Residents reported an atmosphere resembling a curfew, with deserted streets and parked trucks blocking the Mir Jafar Khan Jamali Road; a key artery leading to the Quetta-Chaman Red Zone. Local sources confirmed the market closure but declined to specify reasons, though security apprehensions were widely cited.
Similar scenes unfolded in Panjgur, where the entire bazaar remained shut and all access roads were barricaded. In Nasirabad, authorities ordered a complete market shutdown, with social media posts criticizing the move as “state humiliation of the public.”
Independence Day Precautionary Measures: Internet Shutdown, Bus Suspension
In a separate notification, the Balochistan government ordered a province-wide suspension of 2G, 3G, and 4G mobile internet services; effective immediately until August 14, 2026. The directive covers all districts, with authorities citing the need for “public safety” ahead of Independence Day celebrations.
Meanwhile, the Bus Transport Union announced a three-day halt to intercity services between Karachi, Turbat, and Gwadar from August 13 to 15. Terminals will remain closed, with operations resuming August 16.
In a late-evening development, the administration of Beseema declared a round-the-clock curfew starting at 6 PM today, extending through the entire day of August 12. Movement of civilians is strictly prohibited, and authorities have appealed to residents to remain indoors unless facing extreme emergencies.
Official Response Pending As of filing this report, no formal statement has been issued by the Home Department or law enforcement agencies regarding the synchronized closures or the duration of the ongoing security protocols.
