Residents of Goth Haji Chattan Khan Rind Road in the Hub Chowki area say the deteriorated condition of the road and an incomplete sewerage project have made daily life difficult, alleging that negligence and irresponsible conduct on the part of the contractor concerned has left the public exposed to serious hardship and safety risks.
According to local residents, the road has fallen into disrepair, disrupting movement in the area, while work on laying a sewerage line was left incomplete. As a result, open pits and poorly finished construction work at multiple points have become a persistent hazard for the public, they said.
According to details shared by residents, work on installing a sewerage line began on Goth Haji Chattan Khan Rind Road in Hub Chowki, but the contractor concerned allegedly left the project unfinished and left the area. Residents said that while the sewerage line was laid to some extent, protective covers were not installed over it, nor was the road resurfaced, repaired, or leveled after excavation.
This negligence, residents said, has resulted in deep, uncovered pits at several locations, which they described as especially dangerous for children, women, the elderly, motorcyclists, and pedestrians travelling after dark.
Residents expressed serious concern that with the monsoon season underway, the open pits could fill with rainwater, making them even more hazardous. They said that should a child, elderly person, or passerby fall into the open manholes or sewerage pits and be injured or killed, moral, administrative, and legal responsibility would fall on the contractor concerned, the Hub Municipal Corporation, and other relevant authorities.
Residents said the matter extends beyond construction negligence alone, describing it as a serious issue of public safety, civic amenities, municipal accountability, transparent use of public funds, and oversight of the contracting system. They argued that when public funds are being spent on a development project, the relevant authorities are obligated to ensure oversight, quality checks, safety measures, and timely completion failing which, they said, the situation could amount to criminal negligence, misuse of authority, dereliction of duty, and conduct against the public interest.
Residents have demanded that the relevant authorities take immediate notice of the matter and order an inquiry, that departmental and legal action be taken against the contractor held responsible, that the incomplete project be finished, that sturdy protective covers be installed over the sewerage lines without delay, and that the damaged road be repaired and restored immediately.
They warned that a major accident could occur at any time if timely action is not taken, after which mere formal proceedings or statements would not undo the harm caused to the public.
Residents have appealed to Deputy Commissioner Hub, retired Captain Jamadar Khan Mandokhail; Chief Officer of the Hub Municipal Corporation, Najmuddin; and Chairman of the Hub Municipal Corporation, Gul Hassan Muhammad Hassani, to take urgent and serious notice of the issue, conduct an on-site inspection, determine responsibility, and take emergency practical measures to protect public life and property before a potential tragedy occurs.
No response from the district administration or the HubMunicipal
