EAST RUTHERFORD, NEW JERSEY: Spain won the 2026 FIFA World Cup on Sunday, beating Argentina 1-0 in extra time before more than 80,000 fans at the New York/New Jersey Stadium.

The final was goalless through 90 minutes of regulation play. In the 106th minute, Nico Williams set up substitute Ferran Torres, who scored the winning goal to break the deadlock.

Argentina's Enzo Fernández was booked in first-half stoppage time of extra time (90+3'), and Lionel Messi's side pushed for a late equalizer but could not find a breakthrough.

The result gives Spain their second men's World Cup title, following their first in 2010, capping a tournament in which the team conceded only one goal across seven matches before the final. The 2026 tournament, co-hosted by the United States, Mexico, and Canada, pitted Europe's top-ranked side against South America's No. 1 team in the showpiece final.
