Pakistan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs has condemned threats made by Houthi forces against commercial vessels in the Red Sea, including Saudi flagged and Bahri shipping vessels, and reaffirmed full support for Saudi Arabia's regional and territorial security.

Speaking at the ministry's weekly briefing, Foreign Office spokesperson Tahir Hussain Andrabi said Saudi Arabia has every right to treat Houthi threats against its commercial and naval assets as a serious matter, and that Pakistan considers Riyadh's right to self-defense and countermeasures against such threats to be legitimate under international law.

The spokesperson said any targeting of Pakistani flagged commercial vessels would be treated as a threat to Pakistan's national security, and that Pakistan reserves the right to take necessary legal and defensive action including the use of force under the UN Charter ; to protect its maritime interests.

He added that continuous protection of Red Sea shipping lanes is essential to global trade, and called on all parties to respect international law and avoid further escalation.
