The Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC) has issued a strongly worded statement rejecting what it describes as the systematic use of Pakistan's judicial apparatus to silence political resistance and suppress human rights advocacy in Balochistan, alleging that state institutions and the courts are acting in tandem to punish the group's leadership through fabricated cases and unconstitutional proceedings.
According to the statement, BYC leaders, including Dr. Mahrang Baloch, Beebagr Baloch, Sibghatullah Shahji, Beebow Baloch, and Gulzadi Baloch, have remained in detention for the past 16 months, facing more than 50 cases the organization characterizes as fabricated. BYC said its leaders were subjected to over a month of closed-door proceedings in an Anti-Terrorism Court, which it described as "faceless" and "secret." The group said that after its leaders boycotted the trial in protest, the court appointed defense counsel for them without their consent, and subsequently handed down life sentences to Dr. Mahrang Baloch and Sibghatullah Shahji.
The statement further points to a new First Information Report (FIR No. 10/2026), registered on April 24, 2026, against Gulzadi Baloch under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA) 2016 and the Anti-Terrorism Act (ATA) 1997, in connection with a TikTok video. BYC noted that the FIR itself acknowledges Gulzadi Baloch is already in judicial custody at Mach jail in District Bolan, and alleges an unknown third party uploaded the video on her behalf, a claim the organization calls evidence of the case's fabricated nature.
BYC described the pattern as a "coordinated campaign of judicial oppression," saying it has lost confidence in a court system in which it says urgent pleas over judicial bias have been dismissed even as severe sentences were issued shortly afterward. The organization renewed its call on the international community, human rights bodies, and global advocates to press for an end to what it called secret trials and for the unconditional release of its detained leadership.
Editor's note: This report reflects claims made in a press statement issued by the Baloch Yakjehti Committee. The organization's allegations regarding the conduct of the courts and state authorities have not been independently verified by this outlet. Pakistani officials have previously disputed BYC's characterization of legal proceedings against its members; the group has also faced government allegations, which it denies, of links to banned militant organizations.
