The Markazi Anjuman-e-Tajaran Balochistan (Central Traders Association of Balochistan) has announced an indefinite suspension of goods transport on the Quetta-Karachi route, along with Mastung, Kalat, Khuzdar and adjoining areas, citing a surge in highway robberies, truck burnings, driver kidnappings and extortion.
The announcement was made at a press conference by association president Abdul Raheem Kakar and Yaseen Mengal, who said the suspension covers the movement of cargo across the entire corridor with immediate effect. Traders at the press conference said the state's writ no longer holds on the highway, leaving them with no option but to halt deliveries.
Kakar said the move was not intended as a strike but as a warning to the government. He said that if extortionists and robbers operating along the route are not eliminated, the association will extend the suspension to cargo movement across all of Balochistan.
