Jacobabad: A series of violent incidents involving young women has raised concerns across Jacobabad district, where at least five women have reportedly lost their lives in separate cases over the past 15 days.

The incidents, which include alleged suicides, suspected murders, and a fatal shooting at a wedding ceremony, have prompted calls for thorough investigations and greater attention to women's safety in the region.

One of the most high-profile cases involved Jannat Khatoon, who was shot dead while sitting in her wedding tent in Goth Gul Khan Banglani within the jurisdiction of Thul's C-Section police station.

According to a police report filed by Noor Muhammad Banglani, the victim's brother, the attack took place on June 14 when a man identified as Zafarullah Banglani, along with two unidentified accomplices, allegedly arrived at the wedding venue and opened fire. The complainant stated that the suspect had previously sought Jannat Khatoon's hand in marriage and allegedly carried out the attack after the proposal was rejected.

Police have registered a murder case against the named suspect and two unidentified individuals.

In another incident, 25-year-old Saima Sarki, a mother of two from Goth Sachal Sarki within the jurisdiction of Mubarakpur police station, reportedly died from a gunshot wound. While initial reports described the incident as a suicide, residents of the area have questioned that account and alleged that the possibility of murder should be investigated.

Earlier, on June 9, 23-year-old Amiran, daughter of Lal Jan and wife of Jirk Sinani Buledi, was reported dead in the jurisdiction of Garhi Khairo police station. According to family members, she died by suicide. However, local residents have also raised suspicions regarding the circumstances surrounding her death.

The recent cases have sparked concern among local communities and rights advocates, who argue that every unnatural death involving women should be investigated thoroughly and transparently.

At the time of publication, police had not announced any link between the incidents, and investigations into several of the cases were ongoing.
