Unidentified armed assailants ambushed a large convoy of Pakistani security forces on the N-40 highway near Kili Bato, in Nushki district, on Saturday, in the latest attack targeting security personnel in the area, according to initial reports reaching The Balochistan Dispatch.

Security personnel were reportedly killed in the assault, though an exact toll had not been independently confirmed at the time of writing.

The convoy, which included bulletproof vehicles, was said to be travelling towards Nushki city when it came under fire. Police vehicles escorting the convoy were also targeted. Reports indicated that the vehicle of a senior district official was struck during the attack; the official, however, is said to have survived and left the scene safely.

The ambush came two days after another security forces convoy was attacked near Nushki, an assault in which three personnel were reportedly killed and three others wounded.

Nushki district, which lies along the highway running towards the Iranian border, has repeatedly been the site of attacks on security convoys and on vehicles transporting mineral resources. Baloch separatist armed groups active in the area have previously blockaded roads and targeted both military and commercial traffic.

No group had claimed responsibility for the latest attack as of the time of publication.
