Balochistan hands 15 buses to colleges, pledges 100 more

Published August 3, 2026

Balochistan's Education Minister, Raheela Hamid Khan Durrani, has distributed the keys to 15 buses among college principals to ease travel for students, and pledged that 100 more air-conditioned buses would follow in the next phase.

The keys were handed over at a brief ceremony at the Government Girls Postgraduate College in Quetta on Sunday. Speaking at the event, Durrani said the second phase of the scheme would provide 100 modern, air-conditioned buses to girls' and boys' colleges across the province.

Director Colleges Muhammad Hussain Baloch, Project Director Colleges Ashfaq Baloch and Joint Director Saeeda Baloch were among those present.

The handover adds to a series of student-welfare measures the education department has rolled out in recent months, including a pink scooty scheme for female students, digital tablets for teachers, and the free distribution of textbooks part of what the provincial government describes as a wider push to improve access to education in Balochistan.

For college students in a province where distance and the cost of daily travel keep many away from campus a barrier that weighs especially heavily on young women reliable transport is a practical concern as much as a symbolic one. Whether the promised 100 buses materialise, and reach colleges beyond the provincial capital, will be the measure of the scheme.
