The Balochistan Dispatch, Developing Story
This is a developing story based on local sources and eyewitness accounts. Several details remain unverified and no official statement has been issued so far. It will be updated as confirmation becomes available.
Traffic on key national highways in Balochistan remained suspended on Wednesdy following a series of overnight incidents in Kalat, Mastung and Nushki districts, local sources told The Balochistan Dispatch.
Khad Kocha: Firing reported, eight vehicles seized
The situation near Khad Kocha in Mastung district remained tense, with local sources reporting that traffic on the main highway has been disrupted. Unconfirmed reports mention firing on several vehicles in the area, though no government agency has verified this so far.
Separately, unidentified armed men reportedly seized eight large vehicles near Madina Hotel in Khad Kocha and drove them toward an undisclosed location, according to local sources. Law enforcement agencies are said to have launched an investigation and a search for the vehicles and the armed men is underway.
N-40: Traffic suspended at Nushki station and Ahmedwal
Security forces suspended traffic in both directions on the N-40 Quetta, Taftan national highway at the Nushki station point, reportedly for security reasons, with a similar suspension reported at Ahmedwal. Hundreds of vehicles are stranded on both sides of the closure, leaving transporters and passengers facing severe difficulties as they wait for the road to reopen.
Context: A pattern of highway attacks
Wednesdy's disruptions follow a documented pattern of highway violence in these districts. In earlier incidents this year, a bridge on the Quetta, Karachi highway near Rahimabad in Kalat was damaged in an explosion, passengers were injured in firing on a coach at Khad Kocha, and the N-40 was closed for hours in May after a bridge near Nushki was destroyed in a blast. Repeated attacks on trucks in Mastung, Khad Kocha, Washuk and Kharan led the Balochistan Goods Truck Owners Association to suspend mineral transport across the province earlier this year.
Residents are advised to avoid unnecessary travel on the affected routes until traffic is formally restored.
More details will be published as they are received and verified
