A police officer was killed and several security personnel were wounded or abducted in a series of attacks across Balochistan, officials said, in one of the more intense days of violence targeting law enforcement in the province.

In Mastung, a police officer was killed when unidentified armed men opened fire, officials said. Security forces cordoned off the area and launched a search operation to trace the attackers.

In Chaghi district, armed men attacked a Quetta-bound convoy in the Charsar area near Dalbandin. According to police sources, a bullet shattered the window of a vehicle carrying Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Arbab Ali Lashari, and flying glass lightly injured the DSP and two accompanying personnel. The injured were given first aid at the scene, after which the convoy continued toward its destination.

Separately in Dalbandin, unidentified men carried out attacks at three locations and set a truck on fire, officials said.

In Lasbela, armed men attacked a police check post and abducted a sub-inspector, taking him to an unknown location. In Khuzdar, tribal leader Akhlaq Khidrani and another man were abducted in a separate incident. Police said investigations and search operations were under way in both cases.

No group immediately claimed responsibility for the attacks. Balochistan, Pakistan's largest and least-developed province by area, has for years witnessed a low-intensity insurgency in which security forces, convoys and law-enforcement personnel are frequently targeted.
