At least five people were killed and two women wounded across Balochistan over the past 24 hours in a string of unconnected incidents from the targeted shooting of a police officer to a killing inside a home ; while security forces recovered two roadside bombs in the province's south.
In Mastung, a police officer was shot dead by unidentified armed men, police said. No group claimed responsibility and the motive was not immediately clear. Mastung has been a recurring flashpoint for militant and sectarian attacks.
On the outskirts of Quetta, protests resumed in Hanna Urak after the alleged killing of a local youth. Demonstrators said another young man from Urak, Riaz Kakar, had been killed in the Wali Tangi Doa Rud area, and that his body had still not been handed to his family. Urak tribesmen were staging a sit-in outside the Hanna police station and the Frontier Corps headquarters in the area. Hanna Urak saw deadly militant violence and weeks of protest in July.
In the south, police sources said two improvised explosive devices were found and defused near Turbat ; one at Kalatak and another on the Sami Link Road ; averting potential attacks.
In Buleda, armed men tried to abduct a man who resisted; one person was killed and two women were injured in the violence that followed, according to initial accounts.
In Dera Murad Jamali, a man shot and killed his wife in the Tambu area, police said, in what appeared to be a domestic killing.
Separately, in Quetta, unidentified attackers killed a young man with a hammer, police said, and an investigation was under way.
The spread of these cases in a single day ; a targeted shooting, a foiled bombing, an abduction attempt and ordinary crime ; reflects the layered insecurity many Baloch residents live with, where political violence and everyday crime overlap. Independent confirmation of the freshest incidents was limited at the time of writing, with several cases resting on police accounts or protesters' claims.
