Newly appointed UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham has approved a US request to use British military bases for potential strikes against Iran, according to a Bloomberg report.

The report said the decision continues a policy set by former Prime Minister Keir Starmer, under which such strikes are characterized as defensive action rather than direct entry into the conflict. Sources cited in the report said Starmer held a key meeting with senior ministers and officials last Friday to discuss the escalating tension with Iran and the UK's strategy going forward. Burnham's office has not yet issued a formal statement on the matter.

The development comes as tensions between the US and Iran continue to escalate. US President Donald Trump has warned that Iran's nuclear could become a target of a US strike if a diplomatic resolution is not reached.

US strikes continue for 12th consecutive night

The US military struck multiple military targets inside Iran for an 12th consecutive night, while Iranian air defense systems were placed on high alert following reports of explosions in Iranian cities.

US Central Command (CENTCOM) said in a statement posted on X that the strikes are intended to limit Iranian military capabilities that could threaten international commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.

Iranian media reported that US airstrikes reached the outskirts of Bushehr, with further strikes reported in Kermanshah and Khuzestan. Iranian media also reported hearing multiple explosions in Konarak and Sirik. Tehran's air defense system has been fully activated in anticipation of further threats, though no official details on casualties or damage have been released.

Iran claims strike on US assets in Kuwait

According to a statement attributed to Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), in response to strikes on Ali al-Salem airbase in Kuwait, Iranian forces targeted American military installations, including what was described as a large warehouse of military equipment and supplies.

The statement claimed Iranian precision missiles and drones were used against US MQ-9 drones and air defense systems in the area. No independent confirmation of the IRGC's claims has been reported.
