In a major legal and political development, a divisional bench of the Supreme Court of Pakistan has reinstated Nawab Jangez Marri as a member of the Balochistan Provincial Assembly from constituency PB-9 Kohlu.
The bench, led by Justice Naeem Akhtar Afghan, along with Justice Muhammad Shafi Siddiqui and Justice Mian Gul Hassan Aurangzeb, issued the ruling on Tuesday, suspending the decision of the Balochistan Election Tribunal, Quetta, which had been delivered on July 29, 2026.
As a direct consequence of the apex court’s verdict, the schedule for re-elections set to be held on August 27, 2026, at four polling stations in the constituency has also been annulled. The Election Commission of Pakistan had earlier issued the re-polling plan following the tribunal’s initial ruling.
Nawab Jangayz Marri was represented before the Supreme Court by Advocate Supreme Court Amanullah Kanrani, who argued the case on behalf of the appellant.
The reinstatement is expected to have significant implications for the political landscape of Balochistan, particularly in the Kohlu district, as Marri returns to the provincial legislature with immediate effect.
