A devastating series of snakebite incidents has claimed the lives of three members of the Shambani clan in Dera Bugti district, while a third child fights for recovery at the District Headquarters Hospital, sources confirmed to Balochistan Dispatch.

According to family sources, Ghani Mirkani Shambani lost his daughter, while his 10-year-old son miraculously survived the venomous attack. In a separate but simultaneous incident, Puto Mirkani Shambani lost his daughter. Puto and Ghani are real brothers, making the tragedy a double blow to the extended family.

A third child, has been sent to the Dera Bugti DHQ Hospital in critical condition. Hospital administration officials told our reporter that the child's condition has "improved from the initial critical state" and is now stable, though they remain under close observation.

The affected family was living closely to the district's political leadership. B Loti, the ancestral home of the Shambani tribe, is the residence of District Chairman Ghulam Nabi Shambani, who has held the elected seat for the past ten years.

This personal tragedy unfolds against a grim backdrop of rising snakebite mortality in the region. However, local residents and tribal elders have criticized the government's response, alleging that many deaths occur like this due to the lack of basic medical facilities in far-flung areas, forcing victims to travel hours to reach DHQ Dera Bugti.

The funeral prayers for the deceased were held with hundreds of tribesmen in attendance, as the community mourns what elders are calling "one of the darkest days" for the Shambani clan in recent memory. The 10-year-old survivor remains hospitalized and is being monitored for possible secondary infections.

This is a developing story. Balochistan Dispatch will provide updates on the condition of the surviving child and the health department's action plan.
