The Government of Balochistan has imposed a 90-day ban on the transportation, transfer, and distribution of timber and other forest products across the province in an effort to curb illegal logging and timber smuggling.
According to an official notification issued by the provincial Home Department, the ban has been enforced under Section 144 with immediate effect and will remain in force in all districts of the province for the next three months.
Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Muhammad Hamza Shafqat said the measure is intended to prevent the illegal harvesting and movement of timber, which poses a serious threat to Balochistan's forests and ecological balance. He said the temporary restriction would support forest conservation efforts and encourage the sustainable management of natural resources.
Under the order, the transportation of all forms of timber, wood logs, and other forest products has been prohibited. District administrations, police, the Frontier Corps, and other law enforcement agencies have been authorized to stop, inspect, and seize vehicles, trucks, or trailers found transporting timber in violation of the ban.
The Home Department warned that strict legal action would be taken against violators under Section 188 of the Pakistan Penal Code and other relevant laws. It also clarified that no existing permits, passes, or previous authorizations would be accepted for the release of vehicles carrying timber during the restriction period.
However, exemptions may be granted in exceptional cases involving public interest or essential government requirements. Such exemptions will require prior written approval from the Home Department following a formal request by the relevant administrative authority.
The provincial government has directed all district administrations and law enforcement agencies to ensure strict implementation of the ban, describing the measure as an important step toward protecting Balochistan's forests, preventing illegal timber smuggling, and preserving the province's natural resources.
