Sit-ins staged at Bashir Chowk and Kirani Road in Quetta concluded at around 9:00 p.m. on Monday after several detained women protesters were released, according to the Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC).

In a statement, the BYC said the protest was initially organized by family members of the committee's imprisoned leaders near Burma Hotel on Sariab Road against a court verdict that sentenced members of the organization's leadership to life imprisonment.

The group alleged that a heavy police presence was deployed at the protest site and that several participants were taken into custody during the demonstration. According to the BYC, the detentions prompted supporters to expand the protest by staging sit-ins at multiple locations across Quetta.

The committee stated that some of the detained protesters were later released, leading to the end of the sit-ins. However, it claimed that several bystanders who were also taken into custody remain detained and have been assured of their release on Tuesday.

In its statement, the BYC alleged that peaceful political activities in Balochistan are increasingly being restricted and expressed concern over what it described as limitations on the right to peaceful assembly.

The organization reiterated its commitment to continuing what it described as a peaceful campaign for human rights and justice. It also called for the reversal of the life sentences awarded to its leaders and urged political parties, lawyers, journalists, civil society organizations, and human rights groups to raise concerns over restrictions on peaceful political activity in the province.

There was no immediate statement from the police or the provincial government regarding the BYC's claims. Balochistan Dispatch could not independently verify the allegations at the time of publication.
