Former National Assembly member and Balochistan National Party (BNP) chief Sardar Akhtar Mengal has returned all salaries and parliamentary privileges he received during his tenure as a Member of the National Assembly (MNA), depositing a total of Rs7,892,725 into the government treasury.
According to official documents, Mengal submitted a cheque worth Rs7.89 million to the National Assembly Secretariat, covering salaries and allowances for the period from September 3, 2024, to February 11, 2026.
In a letter addressed to the National Assembly Secretariat, Mengal stated that he had not withdrawn any salary or allowance from his parliamentary bank account after submitting his resignation in September 2024.
"I am returning a total amount of Rs7,892,725. I have not withdrawn any salary or allowance from my bank account since resigning in September 2024," Mengal wrote.
He further requested the Secretariat to transfer all remaining funds held in his parliamentary bank account to the government treasury.
Mengal said the move was consistent with his commitment to honesty, transparency, and accountability in public service.
The veteran Baloch nationalist leader resigned from the National Assembly on September 3, 2024, in protest against what he described as Parliament's failure to adequately address the longstanding issues facing Balochistan. He had been elected from NA-256 Khuzdar during the 2024 general elections.
Although he tendered his resignation in September 2024, it was formally accepted by the Speaker of the National Assembly on February 11, 2026.
Mengal's decision to return his salaries and parliamentary benefits has drawn attention in political circles, with supporters describing it as a symbolic gesture underscoring his political stance on Balochistan and his commitment to public accountability.
