The Supreme Court has adjourned the sentence suspension appeals of lawyer and rights activist Imaan Mazari and her husband, advocate Hadi Ali Chattha, after the Islamabad High Court listed their case for hearing on July 24.

The apex court has kept the matter pending before itself and may take it up again if the IHC fails to hear the case as scheduled.

Mazari and Chattha were sentenced to a combined 17 years in prison in January 2026 under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA), in a case linked to social media posts the prosecution called an anti-state narrative. The Supreme Court had earlier, on May 12, directed the IHC to decide their sentence suspension pleas within two weeks an order the IHC has repeatedly missed, prompting the couple's counsel to accuse the high court of defying the apex court.
