A deputy superintendent of police was killed after being abducted by armed men in Balochistan's Barkhan district, while an abducted constable was later recovered safely, as security forces widened a search operation in the area, officials said.

In the Khatta Chowki area of Barkhan, armed men set up a blockade on the road and targeted a police party, opening fire on the police vehicle before abducting DSP Muhammad Mureed Bugti and Constable Rasool Bakhsh Wagha, according to police sources.

Following the incident, police and law enforcement agencies cordoned off the area and launched an operation to recover the Abducted Police officials. During the search, the body of DSP Mureed Bugti was found near a mountain range, while Constable Rasool Bakhsh Wagha was recovered safely.

Adviser to the Chief Minister of Balochistan, Shahid Rind, said the officer had been "martyred" in firing by the attackers and that one police official was injured in the incident.

Security forces cordoned off the area and launched a search operation, with additional personnel called in as operations continued in the Rakhni area of Barkhan, officials said.

In statements following the attack, Shahid Rind said action against those he described as "terrorists" and "anti-state elements" would continue "to its logical conclusion," adding that such elements would be eliminated "at all costs."

The funeral prayers for DSP Muhammad Mureed Bugti were held at the AC Ground in Sui, where a large number of people from the Bugti tribe attended before he was laid to rest.

A senior officer in the Balochistan Police, Mureed Bugti had survived several attacks during his years of service. Further investigation into the incident is underway, and no detailed formal statement had been issued by the authorities at the time of reporting.
