The Bugti Youth Organization (BYO) has expressed serious concern over what it describes as the incomplete implementation of an agreement with Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL), urging the Government of Balochistan, relevant authorities, and the company's management to fulfill their commitments to the people of Dera Bugti.
In a statement issued on Monday, the organization alleged that key provisions of the agreement remain unimplemented. According to BYO, local diploma-holder engineers have not been provided employment opportunities, while a commitment to supply 1.5 million gallons of water per day to the local population has yet to be fulfilled.
The organization also claimed that the restoration of retired Sun Quota employees has not commenced despite previous commitments.
The statement further raised concerns regarding the utilization of Pakistan Petroleum Limited's Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) funds. BYO alleged that insufficient investment has been made in healthcare, education, social welfare, and development projects in Dera Bugti, particularly in Sui, and claimed that a significant portion of the CSR budget is being spent outside the district.
Calling for immediate action, the organization urged the provincial government, relevant institutions, and PPL to fully implement all provisions of the agreement, create employment opportunities for local youth, ensure the promised daily water supply, restore retired Sun Quota employees, and prioritize CSR spending on healthcare, education, welfare, and infrastructure projects in Dera Bugti and Sui.
Established in 2024 by educated young members of the Bugti tribe, the Bugti Youth Organization describes itself as a peaceful, non-political civil society organization working to promote climate resilience, women's rights, education, youth empowerment, tribal rights, and sustainable community development across Dera Bugti.
Balochistan Dispatch contacted Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL) to seek its response to the allegations made by the organization. However, no response had been received by the time of publication. This report will be updated if the company issues a statement.
The claims reported in this article are based on a statement issued by the Bugti Youth Organization and have not been independently verified by Balochistan Dispatch.
