Four people were killed and one injured after a violent clash between two groups over a water-sharing dispute in a remote rural area near Darinjan, Dera Bugti, on Saturday, according to local sources.
The incident reportedly stemmed from a longstanding family dispute that escalated after one group installed a rubber pipeline from a natural spring in the Toba area to carry water to nearby farmland. Sources said members of the opposing group objected to the use of the spring and warned them against drawing water from it.
The following morning, when members of the first group arrived at the pipeline and a nearby water reservoir to collect water, an argument broke out, which quickly turned into an exchange of gunfire.
As a result of the firing, four people were killed while one person sustained injuries, local sources said.
The deceased were identified as:
Murad, son of Sawal
Adu son of Murad
Ruka son of Sijja
Saido son of Ruka
According to local sources, the victims belonged to the Perozani Kohli community.
Sources said the deceased included a father and son from one side of the dispute and two brothers from the opposing side.
The injured person was shifted to a nearby medical facility for treatment. Security personnel and local authorities reached the scene after the incident, while efforts are underway to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the clash.
The deadly confrontation has once again highlighted the growing challenges surrounding access to water in drought-prone rural areas of Dera Bugti, where disputes over scarce natural resources can quickly escalate into violence.
Authorities have not yet issued an official statement regarding the incident, and an investigation is expected to determine responsibility for the shooting.
