Balochistan witnessed one of its deadliest days in recent months as coordinated militant attacks across multiple districts left dozens dead, including security personnel and civilians, highlighting the deteriorating security situation across the province.

The most significant incident unfolded in Khuzdar's Wadh area, where heavily armed militants launched a coordinated suicide assault on the residence of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader Mir Shafiq-ur-Rehman Mengal.

According to initial reports, five suicide attackers, reportedly belonging to the banned Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) Majeed Brigade, carried out the attack. One attacker rammed an explosives-laden vehicle into the main gate of the residence, destroying the entrance and sections of the boundary wall. A second attacker reportedly entered the compound and detonated his explosives, while three additional militants attempted to storm the residence.

Sources said Mengal's guards and associates engaged the attackers in an intense gun battle that lasted approximately two-and-a-half hours. The assault was eventually repelled, with all five attackers reportedly killed.

Initial casualty reports indicate that between 12 and 14 security guards protecting the residence were killed, while several others sustained injuries. Mir Shafiq-ur-Rehman Mengal, who was present inside the house during the attack, survived unharmed and reportedly participated in defending the compound.

The banned BLA Majeed Brigade has claimed responsibility for the attack.

Violence Spreads Across Balochistan

The Khuzdar assault came amid a broader wave of violence across the province.

In Ziarat district, the death toll among police personnel has risen to 21 following a militant attack on a police check post and the subsequent killing of officers who had reportedly been abducted during the assault. The incident marks one of the deadliest attacks on Balochistan Police in recent years.

Meanwhile, reports also emerged of attacks targeting security forces on the Bela, Quetta, Karachi Highway, while another military convoy was reportedly attacked in Kalat. Independent verification of reported casualty figures from these incidents remains ongoing.

In Harnai, militants allegedly destroyed a key bridge using explosive materials, disrupting transportation and communications in the area.

Separate reports also indicated that multiple bodies were recovered from the Zarghoon Ghar region. Authorities have yet to officially confirm the identities of the deceased or the circumstances surrounding their deaths.

Helicopter activity was observed over several affected areas as security forces launched search and clearance operations.

Government Condemns the Attacks

Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti strongly condemned the attack on Mir Shafiq-ur-Rehman Mengal's residence, describing it as a "cowardly act of terrorism."

He praised Mengal and those defending the residence for what he described as their courage and determination, stating that such attacks would not weaken the state's resolve against militant violence.

Former Balochistan Chief Minister Nawab Sanaullah Khan Zehri also expressed grief over the Khuzdar attack and the killing of police personnel in Ziarat.

In a statement, Zehri said the targeting of civilians and law enforcement personnel was unacceptable and called for all available resources to be utilized to restore lasting peace in Balochistan.

Military Reaffirms Counterterrorism Commitment

During a recent press briefing, Director General Inter-Services Public Relations (DG ISPR) Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry reiterated Pakistan's commitment to combating terrorism.

He stated that:

"Balochistan is the life, honor, and pride of Pakistan."

According to the military spokesperson, 38 security personnel were martyred during recent militant attacks, while 54 militants were killed in defensive engagements and intelligence-based clearance operations.

Security Situation Remains Tense

The latest attacks represent a significant escalation in militant activity across Balochistan, with coordinated assaults reported from multiple districts within a short period.

Security has been heightened across vulnerable areas as law enforcement agencies continue search operations and investigations into the incidents.

Authorities have urged the public to remain vigilant while officials continue assessing the full extent of the casualties and damage.
