A protest was held in the U.S. capital, Washington, D.C., against the reported life sentence handed to Baloch human rights activist and leader of the movement for families of missing persons, Dr. Mahrang Baloch.

The demonstration was attended by members of the Baloch community, human rights advocates, and supporters from various backgrounds. Protesters carried banners and placards calling for Dr. Mahrang Baloch’s immediate release, an end to enforced disappearances, and respect for human rights in Balochistan.

Speakers at the rally said that punishing individuals for peacefully advocating human rights and justice is contrary to the principles of freedom of expression and fundamental human rights. They argued that suppressing dissent would not resolve longstanding issues but would instead deepen existing grievances.

The protesters urged the international community, the United Nations, and global human rights organizations to take notice of the situation, call for Dr. Mahrang Baloch’s release, and closely monitor the human rights situation in Balochistan.

At the conclusion of the protest, participants reaffirmed their commitment to continuing peaceful advocacy for justice, accountability, and the protection of human rights.
