WASHINGTON/Islamabad: Escalating US military costs tied to ongoing tension with Iran have pushed the Trump administration to request nearly $87 billion in additional funds from Congress for the next phase of operations and defense needs.

Briefing the Senate Appropriations Committee, US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said $37.5 billion has already been spent on Iran-related military operations, a figure he said includes projected costs through September 30.

Hegseth told the committee that current global conditions call for expanding US military capacity rather than reducing the defense budget. and in second end Pakistan's Finance Division has requested a $10 billion Exchange Stabilization Facility from the United States. According to sources familiar with the matter, if approved, it would be a significant lifeline for Pakistan's debt-stressed economy. The request reportedly emerged in the context of Pakistan's IMF program discussions, with Pakistan's strategic importance to the US highlighted amid the Iran conflict.
