The Balochistan government has decided to install artificial intelligence–based traffic signals in Quetta, in what Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti described as a move to ease the provincial capital's worsening congestion.

The decision was taken at a meeting chaired by the chief minister to review a strategy for rolling out a modern traffic management system in the city. Bugti directed the relevant departments to ensure coordinated steps toward what he called an effective, sustainable and modern traffic system.

The chief minister said the AI-based signals were expected to cut travel times and smooth the flow of traffic, and that the system would help enforce order on the roads and allow more effective monitoring. He framed the plan as part of the government's reform agenda and said equipping Quetta with modern urban facilities was among its priorities.

"Facilitating citizens and ensuring a safe traffic system is the government's foremost priority," he said.

The announcement did not include a timeline, a cost estimate, or details of which intersections would be covered or which technology or vendor would be used.
